The Academic bowl is an M&O competition. Each school assembles a team of eight juniors or seniors, two compete in each subject. The subject categories are Math,Language arts, Science and Social Studies. It is a one night event. The students take two 45-minute tests, separated by a break for dinner. The tests are scored and awards presented the same night. indiviual awards go to the top 3 places, and a trophy goes to the team with the highest composite score. STAA has had individual medal winners almost every year and in 2010 took 1st place as a team.
